This is a Heath Fritillary Melitaea athalia, one of Britain's rarest butterflies.
In fact it was the demise of the Large Blues in 1979, that prompted the action to save these wee beauties from extinction
Well worth suffering a swollen arm (allergic bite reaction), to nail these beautiful butterflies
I am led to believe that they are late in emerging this year, but I was fortunate to find several of them, in the most unlikeliest of places
