Beautiful bird. It looks like there is an issue with focusing here however. Most of the focus is centred on the foliage below and not on the bird. When shooting birds close up concentrate on the head. In close ups like this it is far more important to get the head in focus. It is also quite noisy. Some kind of noise reduction software would help here or simply isolate the bird and some of the fore vegetation and blur the rest slightly.

Do you know what. Not all photos have to show all details in the birds face and body. The low winter sun has some wonderful properties to it. SHooting into the sun can produce some wonderful effects especially when ice is around. Forget convention and the rule and have fun. Most of my shots are done through an artistic slant. It is what inspires me. I love slimbridge and all the wildfowl. Have fun and experiemnt with your own style. Look forward to seeing more of your images.

Well technically this is an excellent shot despite a slight blowout of the whites in places. Love the dark bg which really makes the swan pop from the image. Personally for me it is cropped in too tight. These are such wild and elegant birds and should be given a bit more room to breath. Many people can take a technically good photo but more effort is needed with composition and it can make or break an image. Experiment more and have fun! A beautiful image, well done!
