Taken on day2, where I was no longer a novice ; )
One observation I made whilst doing this type of shoot, was that some birds reacted differently to others with regad to the flash lighting. Suffice to say, when the more nervous birds re-directed from the feeder due to the flash, I then gave them the opportunity to feed without the flash being fired.
I also had other food sources close by for those that were able to notice it.
Enjoy the weekend, and thanks for taking the time to look - large or small - no pressure ; )

Fantastic shot! One suggestion: I'd be tempted to use the levels tool to whiten the feathers on his head — they look rather grey, here.

I just uploaded my photo of a blue tit - not sure i should have bothered after seeing yours!! what a great photo. I think what makes it so good is the fact that its a view you do not normally see, or if you do it is only for a split second. Well done, great work

Thanks for such a great response - much appreciated.
I've been in the garden setting up some equiptment to do some jumping squirrel shots, using flash, but the squirrels seem to busy chasing each other aroound the garden to be bothered about peanuts. Hopefully, they'll cotton on by tomorrow morning, and I'll get some shots.

Stunning shot, very well caught indeed.

FANTASTIC Andrew - remarkable capture, just when one thought they couldn't get any better. I just love the way this shows up the construction and minute detail of the wings in flight - pure magic!!

Thanks very much to Mara and Sylvia for their user awards.
The squirrels are at phase 2 - they've worked out where the peanuts are, and in a squabble, knocked away the wooden baton leading to them. That said, they've eaten enough to be getting on with for an hour or so, so I'm hoping they will be getting hungry sometime soon.

Thanks Neil, I don't think anyone is or has implied that it can't be done without flash.
