The lavender gardens at Buckfast Abbey, Devon. They used to keep the National Lavender Collection - at least 3 specimens each of 170 varieties - but they had to give this up due to the high level of work involved.

Thank you for visiting and thanks for your clicks and comments on Shadowland .... with an especial thank you to Chris_L for his GEA, which really made my day Smile.

A fabulous display of the different varieties in the one area, and very nicely captured in this attractive shot: I bet the scent from these masses blooms was superb.

A sea of purple - just lovely, and I can smell them. I tried lavender here, but I think it just got too hot for them, and yes, they were a bit of work.

Anne you should definitely try again - lavender is a mediterranean herb and thrives in a hot, dusty environment. The one thing it doesn't like is care and attention!!! So don't give it an enriched soil, don't feed it and don't overwater it - it will reward you if you neglect it Smile.

Barbara: yes, definitely, the scent was absolutely heavenly (quite an appropriate description, now I come to think of it, for the gardens of an abbey Wink)
