Very well spotted, Theresa: most would not have set eyes on these measures, and they do make an interesting if unexpected contrast with the soft greens of the nasturtium leaves.

OK,I believe you when you say you do not carry them about in your handbag Theresa !!
My guess is that they are weights for a weed blocking sheet.Just to weigh down the sheet to stop these pesky weeds sprouting up.
