Taken Friday @ 8:42pm
Clipstone Colliery, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire.

I spent a whole year of my life down that dark dusty hole Smile

In 1922 the shafts were sunk at Clipstone colliery to exploit the top hard seam. Construction on the headstocks and winding house followed shortly after, standing at 65 meters they were once the second highest in Europe. The mine operated until July 2003 when it was decided the remaining reserves were no longer economical.

Thanks for the votes everyone Smile

Ian, I was wearing all black and moving very slowly, so there was less chance of being detected by CCTV or the security guaurds.

Smile

Hi Rob, a real change for you but another great shot, I like the foreground interest and the sublte tones in the sky Jane

Thanks Greg, not too sure when I will be posting again, there's been a few changes in my life and more to come yet.

I may be off ePz for quite a while in the near future due to these changes. But they are all good changes, and hopefully will be back posting with more regularity as a result Smile

Garibaldi is my old school too. It's one of the best schools in Nottinghamshire.

Clipstone pit wont be there for too much longer I dont think, so I though I'd better capture it the best way I could, with some nice backlighting.

Thanks for the comment btw Smile

A very striking image, Rob! Striking colours, silhouettes and comp!

A memory from my youth, I was brought up in a mining area and worked down the pit in Rossington before seeing the light and joining the RAF. Not many of these left standing now, this image shows the sadness of the decline of the industry.
