Rules of Photography
Make sure there are no distracting objects in your background. If you can’t see what I’m talking about here, you need to look more carefully………..
A friend and photojournalist, Andy Sharp, on assignment for The Sun during the re-enactment of “Up the Chisholm Trail”. Yes, we live near the old Chisholm Trail.
One of Andy’s secrets to photographing cattle: “Always have a large tree nearby” he told me, “just in case you need to take cover”.
I’m allowing modifications on this one, in case someone wants to play around removing the offending object in the background.
My offering for a Silly Week-End upload.
Make it a great day, and thanks for stopping by.
Anne

Maybe a ladder as well???
The background is not in the least bit distracting. Though one of the horns is interestingly placed.
Moira
One would hardly notice ANY of the background here-- might even miss the FG---in focus or not, the eye is drawn ( in horror) to the (apparently) very close and moving cows---
I cannot decide whether the guy in the bg is distracting or comforting!
A lesson of some sort here--- I was shooting cows this week-- they kept getting too close to me--- maybe i will post ---LOL!

definitely rings a bell. I posted last September some images from a bull run... only here the guy's got a camera and no lamppost ![]()
A very nicely, and carefuly taken image Anne.![]()

Looking at the size of those horns, I don't think I' be getting this close to start with! A super capture, Anne ![]()

Oh my, and good morning. If only I had know I would unleash some very unusual modifications. Thanks for those David and Malc. And here I thought someone would take me seriously ![]()
Quote: Excellent for a silly week end.
were you in a car with a big telephoto mounted on your camera?
francesco
No, Francesco, I was not in a car with a long lens
I was not that far away actually. You'll note I shot this at 90mm. I'm not overly frightened of steers - maybe I should be. A cow bowled me over when I was younger (that could explain a lot of things.......) so I know their sheer strength. These longhorns do have some lethal horns on them, so I guess having that tree nearby wasn't bad advice.

I take it from the overhanging foliage there WAS a tree handy for nipping behind if necessary Anne, as to the distracting object in the bg, darned if I can find it, can't be the cowboy on the horse, and I don't think it's the broken off tree on the right, oh dear! Moira's astute observation is NOT bg, I would hardly call that a 'distraction' anyhow! ![]()
Rgds., Jim
PS. Thanks for the info, will try that and let you know how it went, much as I would like to use manual focusing I'm afraid my eyesight isn't up to it any more, so that may be a problem. What I did with the one I uploaded was aim the camera at something up close and lock the focus at what it was, then recomposed and shot.
