Had a go at birds over Cannock Chase on sat.
Ok i admit i havent got a clue, so any tips on technique, camera settings, and processing especially sharpening would be much appreciated.
The equipment i have to use is a 70-300IS DO lens on a 50d and tripod.
Thanks for looking, lesley

Focus in both shots is on the eye as it should be Lesley and you have captured some lovely detail. Guessing here but would say it looks like the only improvement you are going to achieve in V1 is to get closer because the LTT is so tiny in comparison with say a Robin/Chaffinch. Also I have a feeling the shutter speed wasn't fast enough. Either that or it's a large crop which will soften the shot somewhat. It would help if you activated the EXIF data too to show the shutter speed/aperture used and that would be helpful. I'm wondering if you used any minus exp composition here because it looks to me like minus 1 exp comp would have given you a little more definition in the white of the bird, just slight over exposure in my view.
Re the Blackbird, a fine shot with good detail, pov could be improved but that would entail either getting down to a lower level or photographing one perched.
All considered 2 lovely images, and wouldn't have referred to the finer points if you hadn't have asked Wink
Geoff.
