The angle is good with the barrel in your face. Gives drama! There appears to be a small amount of halo raound the tank where it crosses the sky but it's very slight.

You wouldn't want to meet one of these down a dark alley Grin I also like the drama of the angle, but I wouldn't know anything about halos', just like the picture.

I was REME and this looks like an old Mk1 Chieftain probably left by the British army who shipped many to Calgary during the 60s and 70s. Would have been modern in that period, the rubber on the tracks tell you it was not WW2 but much later. 120mm gun with STAB (following and aiming system) Weight 56 tons UN laden. Capable of around 45kph top speed down hill with a strong wind.. Had a Belzona engine that was developed in Southampton that had a smoke problem and could be seen from miles away on start up. The Armour thickness was classified and probably still is. But smashing to see one again. I must admit to taking one for a test drive long ago... Oh nice image....John

One of Britain finest during the Cold War period, a Mk 1 Chieftan, a formidable bit of kit.

Thanks for the help with ID.

Slight halo is due to selective darkening of sky.

I thought that the war started.. very powerful image. I like the POV. It reminded me the June 4th when I was in Beijing....

Splendid picture of a Chieftan. A bit rusty but still menacing. Also I'm reminded of the Flanders and Swann song, "The Armadillo", if you can remember how that ended...
