Dark Form

This butterfly turns up once in awhile where I live-- it has confused me for some time.

I think I have identified it--finally---as the dark form of the familiar Yellow Tiger Swallowtail.
Occasionally, the female sports a darker color.

I will post the yellow form for comparison....

Another superb insect capture, Jenn: the detail is immaculate and how well it stands out against that brighter floral perch.
Beautifully captured and presented.

The darkness of the creature is suberbly off-set by its choice of light coloured perch, Jenn. It certainly has posed perfectly for you and you have taken advantage of its co-operation by capturing it perfectly.
