Starting a little series, mostly street photography, all b&w.
Strange place. I love our seaside resorts out of season, there's nothing more bleak and desolate than an empty ice cream parlour on a rainy day. But I found Great Yarmouth on a sunny day, heaving with visitors, pretty grim too. I think partly it's because we've never done beach holidays, this was unknown territory for me. Very photogenic if not very inviting...
We're going away for a couple of days but hoping to have internet access. So with luck No. 2 in the series will follow tomorrow.
Thanks for looking,
Moira

I love the way you find natural ways of dividing your images Moira - this is delightful - such contrast between the two moods
Enjoy your break ![]()

Two things so far apart and so much a part of our lives these days, and won't it seems go away.
The Occupy mask against the banking greed and the tracksuit worn by the non athletic almost as a badge of their lack of fitness, is it a protest as well?

The face echoes the shadowy, defocussed yoof's face so well. Scarborough off-season was always my favourite time to go!!

I do like Street captures they are not easy and to it well takes some doing, look forward to this series Moira, Great shot from Great Yarmouth,
John
Love that face on the wall! A great find Moira, and contrast between the two halves of the scene ![]()

Very much looking forward to this series. Was this one of those "pick your frame and wait images" - it's worked a treat.
Anne
fantastic shot Moira.
I love the contrast of the happy face and what looks like not such a happy face walking towards you.

Couldn't agree more about the feeling of desolation at a summer seaside town out of season. A bit like seeing the inside of a disco in daylight...it's never the same as when all the lights are flashing and blinding one in one way or another.
Magnificent juxtaposition in this one.

Two User Awards today! Thanks so much to Barbara and Malc.

It was, Anne. I'd have stayed around for more but Bill was getting bored. As Jeff says, thousands of people flock there every year...particularly the old & infirm!! I was hoping for a mobility scooter, because that's the real story of the town.
Quote: Memo to self: Research how Yarmouth ever became Great!
Very much my sentiments...
This is the first of four shots that I'm really pleased with, all taken within an hour or so.
Thanks folks, we have a few minutes free before other engagements, I'll try to see what's been going on here.

Interesting picture I feel what's to come will be even more so, you never fail to entertain Moira
grim and intriguing.. seems to be direct from a movie!
looks promising from a photographic point of view.
VERY nicely done Moira, a brilliant split and perfect mono.

Quote: Result of research ~ Yarmouth first called Magna (Great) in 1272 in the reign of Edward I, to distinguish it from Little Yarmouth, or Southtown.
Well Grim Yarmouth wouldn't have had the same ring, would it?
Thanks Albert, and everyone else.

Very well obseerved Moira, it looks like the excellent work of Franken in Cardiff city centre has inspired you. I agree with you regarding the seaside out of season, I really must try and take some more images when I'm next visiting Weston-Super-Mare for work
Very well seen and I really like the point of focus throwing the man out of focus.
