My partner is a music teacher and she wants some pictures of her instruments (Clarinet, Sax, Flute and Piano) to hang in her teaching room in her new house. I'm going to get some printed on to canvas for her when they're all done.

This is the first one (possibly!)

Thanks a lot Smile

Phil: I think it might just need more depth of field? Also, if you look at the top of the sheet music, you can see the page is slightly turned up which I totally missed when I was taking the photo! I guess I need to look a bit more carefully before I take the picture! I only got the camera a couple of weeks ago (it's my first DSLR), so I'm still learning that too!!

At least I have a few more weeks before I need to get anything made up, so I can have another crack at it!

great shot, i think it needs to be a little sharper on the middle keys, my pov. I'm trying to do the same with my flute, how did you light this shot?

Hi Kevin,

That's one of the reasons I was thinking of re-taking it with more depth of field, so that I can get the whole thing in focus.

It was just natural light coming through a window. It was a pretty sunny day, but I took this quite early and the sun was coming in through the window at the time. There were actually two windows, in an L shaped wall, with a window on each wall which probably helped.

I'm still thinking about how to do the flute!! It's going to be a lot more reflective than a clarinet, so I'm still debating that one. I was considering trying to get reflections of the other instruments, but I think that might be a bit of a mare to achieve and it wouldn't even notice unless you looked REALLY carefully! I guess it's the little things that make the difference though! Smile

I'm also struggling to get a shot of the piano I like. I tried down the keyboard from one end, but that didn't work out as I'd hoped. I think it needs something else in it. I'll post it when I've worked out what to do!
