Restless Tide

Restless Tide by hwatt

A well handled exposure which proves you shouldn't pack up your gear as soon as the sun goes down as the best is often yet to come.

Nicely composed image and a good choice of shutter speed.

Melanie, I have only just discovered your portfolio. What a fantastic collection of images! I know many of your chosen locations and your handling of them is among the best I have seen. Beautiful lighting, strong compositions and a sound technical approach are all in evidence. This image is no exception. Superb. More please.

Mono Mill

Mono Mill by paulstefan

This, in my view, is a very satisfying composition. I particularly like the way the sails point to the corners of the frame giving strong lead in lines. These are complemented by the vane at top right leading in from that corner. i think it works well in black and white and has a nice range of tones.
Great work Paul.

Blackrock Cottage snow

Blackrock Cottage snow by Scottishlandscapes

This is one of the best shots of Blackrock I have seen. As I was there yesterday, I am kicking myself for not getting to it before the best light had gone. I guess I got too tied up at some of the other locations en route. The conditions were just so good yesterday and you have really done the lighting justice. Well done

Brilliant! Its like one of those competitions where you have to say what the dogs would be thinking. It really made me laugh. Excellent.

Great lighting and wonderful recession of tones. Also love the strong but simple composition - groups of three rarely fail! Nice sky too which accentuates the saturated colours of the subjects. Great work.

Howden Autumn

Howden Autumn by paulstefan

It may have been a dreary day but the soft light has really saturated the colours. Very nice composition too, with the bridge leading the eye into the picture. Well done.

I wish I had taken this. How did you manage to get so close? It's a great shot of a beautiful bird.

Dougie,
Just clicked on your site and found this image which I much prefer to my own. I think the lighting is better (not so warm, maybe, but also not so contrasty and therefore better details are shown). I think very early morning is perhaps not the best time for this shot. A well deserved EC.
Best wishes,
Brian

Helen, This is excellent. I'm just catching up with your portfolio and you have some superb images in it. Great work for a relative newcomer to photography. You obviously have a lot of natural ability. Keep up the good work and Happy New Year.

This is excellent, Andy. I love the pose and it looks really sharp and well exposed.
Think I agree about the post though. Well done.

This is a good attempt at a very difficult shot. You have got the important bit sharp, i.e. the head and eyes, but I suspect the shutter speed was not fast enough to get the wings totally sharp.Maybe a faster ISO rating would have solved the problem.
Nice angle and well exposed.Better than any of my attempts at similar subjects.

Old Lighthouse

Old Lighthouse by mr g

Nice shot, Rob. I think the sidelighting works well here and the small white building on the far shore is important in balancing the image. I agree with you about the sky but not much you could do about it.

Brian
