This is Ruby in full flight at the NBPC. Ulike most owls this tiny species spends most of its time on the ground. Burrowing owls are only about 8-10 inches tall and weigh between 5-6 ounces. So cute though but sadly is in decline in the wild.

1/1600 sec, f6.3, ISO200.

Great in flight capture like the way the panning has led to the background being so blurry, really conveying the sense of speed

This is beautiful, perfectly timed!

Brought back memories of seeing these little owls in a display down there at the NBPC a few years ago....disappearing down one hole and popping back out of another.....loved every minute of that visit Smile

Wonderfully caught shot! I saw some of these in a reserve area on T.V. last week. They had half buried pieces of drain pipe in the ground to encourage the owls to stay and breed. Very funny when the footage showed a big owl overhead, The little burrow owl just popped in his drain pipe, out of site to live another day!
