I decided to use the strong sunlight yesterday & combine my 'live view' experiments with a little backlighting.
I set up my small light tent on the garden table outside & made sure the sun was coming in through the back.Exposure was a little tricky & I found that over exposing a couple of stops maintained both a clean white bg & good colour on the flower.I did try a touch of fill flash but it looked a little false with all that light around & reflected off the petals.
Live view worked well although I struggled to actually see the monitor in the sunshine & had to shade it with my straw hat...comes in useful sometimes ![]()
I picked a selection of different flowers from the garden, this is a Poppy I grew from seed,it has huge pink flowers & light coloured stamens.I hope it self sets for next year.
F8 manual mode & live view
1/200th sec with tripod & light tent
ISO 400 to avoid movement in the breeze & maintain shutter speed
Pattern metering
F/L 105mm
Raw file converted in C1v4
Levels adjusted & border added in CS3
I like the way the light has come through the petals, showing all that lovely papery texture.
Thanks for taking the time to look.

A really beautiful image, love the light and details are superb.
Tom.
It's come out really well - maybe I should find my light tent and play outside as well! Good move to dump the fill-flash - every time I've tried it on a flower shot I've disliked the result. If I really need some extra light somewhere a mirror tile or a bit of white card usually does the trick ![]()
A really beautiful image. Wish I could take them like this.
