Fieldfare taken in our garden during the spell of bad weather.

Large V is bigger !

RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch.

Takes place this coming weekend - 30-31 Jan.
Can you spare just 1 hr on either of these days to record the birds that you see in your garden.

If you do not get many birds in your garden it is still worth doing it as it is just as important to know where birds are not plentiful as it is to know you have a garden full of different species.

You can download record sheets or you can send your records on line.

You can find more information here BIG GARDEN BIRDWATCH

I hope some of you will join in - cheers.

Given the environmental difficulies, you got the exposure spot on Brian. Lovely crisp details too, a really fine shot.

Usually winter in open fields - only come in gardens and feed when weather is really bad - berries, apples and grapes etc.
Best of luck with your ' watch ' Jennn.

An excellent image of this fieldfare Brian, I like the way you've captured him jealously guarding his apple. Count me in for the Big Garden Birdwatch too

A very beautiful image. Superb detail, light and colour. Doesn't the snow make a wonderful bg? Thanks for the reminder re Big Garden Birdwatch. We did this for several years but not lately. Will try to do better this time!

Watcha Brian,
well caught image.
the birdwatch is a waste of time for me, since we moved to March, last September, we've seen hardly any birds in the back garden, a couple of sparrows and blackies, and I do mean hardly any. Up above there are ofted a few crows and seagulls winging around, I've seen a couple of magpies up Gaul Road and loads of Pheasants and geese out in the country lanes, but in March, bird life is practically zero.
best

Another fine capture Brian, excellent detail and the blueish tinge to the snow works well. Did the BGB yesterday and had three of these on the list; not quite up to the twenty we had in the garden during the really bad weather.

Hi Mick - bit unlucky not to have MANY birds in your garden - but that is still worthwhile information.

Cheers Dave - No Fieldfares in the garden for over a week now that the snow has all gone.

Thanks everyone.
Brian.
