I have been a little concerned as I hadn't seen the Mandarin Duck on our lake for quite some time and was very pleased to see him today. I noticed that he wasn't showing his brilliant 'courting' colours, as he was in my last upload of him. But he is still colourful anyway.
I only had my compact with me, and he was on a 'fenced off' area, so I couldn't get close to him, and this was the best shot that I could get. I hope that you like it.

i think they are very colourful looking ducks , i'm pleased it still at the lake , i eventualy got to see a few the other day , and must confess i deleted more pictures than i kept as they seemed to have a knack of moving when you taking the picture , well captured and well done ![]()

Never a truer word said in jest by our Mick, he's hit the nail on the head. After the breeding season they moult and lose a lot of their colours. They are not as recognisable then
