The building of the New Cathedral in Linz is also known as the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. The first stone was laid in 1862, and in 1924 Bishop Johannes Maria Gföllner consecrated the finished building as the Cathedral of the Virgin Mary. It is the largest Cathedral in Austria. Yes, it is bigger than St. Stephan in Vienna, only its tower is two metres lower, because no building was allowed to be higher than St. Stephan's.
V2: Beautiful interior, with wonderful stained glass windows
V3: The main place in Linz
V4: Yes, we did cycle... view of the Danube, near Pupping

Great travelogue of the trip Johanna, is that steam coming out the poles at the bottom left? The cycle path is beautifully kept as it curves around the image. Our roads in Scotland are still in a shocking condition and winter is coming again.

That is not steam, it is pulverized water, part of an art installation. Thought it was a nice add to the scene.
Johanna
Looks a wonderful cathedral, Johanna, a fine set of images. V3 reminds me very much of Salzburg ![]()

A fine set of images of the next leg of your tour, v3 is my favourite
Just noticed your comment about the water, an amazing thing to see so unusual Johanna.![]()
So glad you were able to take some time out from your biking for a spot of sightseeing Johanna, just had to go to the map to see how far you'd progressed when at Linz, looks about the halfway mark! Like this set of shots you got, the cathedral is most impressive and your shot of the river at Pupping shows what a lovely cycling path you had for your journey!
Rgds., Jim
