Nice vivid greens against the rock face. Did you boost the saturation / use the VI scene setting or has the flash produced this effect?

Welcome Paul to EPZ.

You have got good detail in the rocks here going right to the back. I wouldn't have said the greens look oversaturated. They have that fresh look of spring when they are still quite new and bright but don't strike me as unrealistic. I can't see any noise either despite your very high ISO. Where the flash might not have served you very well is in picking out the whites in the rocks of the foreground to the left. Their brightness slightly unbalances the pic. I have uploaded a mod for you where I have dampened down that left side. I used a curves adjustment and a layer mask plus I varied the opacity to get the effect I wanted.

Hope you get a lot out of being part of the EPZ community.

Best wishes

Catherine

Thank you Catherine for your input its much appreciated, to be honest I didnt relise the iso was that high (it was in auto iso). I hope to add a lot more as my confidence and ability grows with this fascinating hobby. Never really appreciated a good photo untill i picked up a camera and had a go myself.
Cheers
Paul

I like the minimal colours, Paul, and the way you have composed this with the foreground rocks on the left and some foliage on the right , then the water tailing off into the shadows, evoking a sense of mystery. I think that on a day when the reflections look stronger, it might be worth having another go, but still like what you have produced here.

I love the bright greens Paul. The reason i asked was because i am trying to create those vivid colours using the VI setting on my Nikon D5000. I just wondered how you had achieved it.

PS. I don't recommend VI when taking photos of family and friends - particularly when sun burnt. I left the setting on accidently and created some images my wife was non too pleased with GrinGrinGrin

Sorry to against the flow here - but the greens look way out on my monitor (calibrated). I agree with Catherine up to a point in that the greens are similar to those in springtime - but for me that only works for the tree foliage. The moss I'm sad to say is way out in terms of saturation. Interestingly the greens in foliage can often be tweaked by desaturating the 'yellow' channel in either PS or LR (just a little). See my colour mod for an example. I've also had a play creating a mono version - just for heck of it Grin

Welcome to the site - keep posting and keep asking questions.

prob right there sherlob regarding the greens, it is a fantastic place but extremly dangerous, the ravine is between 20 and 30ft deep and very narrow. just out of shot in the background there is a bridge and we used to jump off into the ravine. Looking back now its incredible no one was ever injured or killed. I think I will take some more shots from up there and try and get the bridge in. Trouble is even in summer this place is really dark.
