I think this is one of my favourite shots from my time at Fairfield. It was around 8am and one of those rare moments when all the elements come together. The frost was still crisp, the sun was just peeping above the horizon and the clouds were retaining colour.

I agree with your comment Derek, I think it's the best one you've posted from this series. The sky has lots of colour as does the church yet the frost is retained and the stream is in the best lead in position yet.

Great frosty fg interest Derek, the rising sun lighting up the church and a great sky - what more could you want!

Nice scene, well shot. The image doesnt have a colour profile tagged Derek, - should have sRGB, so it wont show as intended on any browser other than Firefox.

Its really stands out with some midtone contrast, and highlights toned a little too.

a superb capture of this cold crisp morning, some lovely light hitting the church. nice one.
ant.

Engaging composition that gently leads the eye to the main subject and beautiful light all adds up to a very pleasing image. The bright light on the window does detract slightly but overall excellent I think.

Absopositively brilliant Derek. How just how do you create such an image? Is it heavily photoshopped?

I shoot in RAW format which come out of the camera quite dull and soft looking so that they have to be processed to some degree. The adjustments I make are usually to the contrast and relative light levels. I try to keep away from the saturation slider but altering the tones can deepen the colours.
So you can see the difference I have uploaded a variation (V3) which is a downsized version of the RAW file straight out of the camera.

Absolutely superb Derek, well done on the accolades, well deserved.

Ian

ps, nice to see the original just to see what you have done, a good idea me thinks as it shows the subtle enhancements that are needed to nearly every landscape and seascape to pull back the details.

This is exceptional Derek. For me it has to be colour as the light is so amazing and doesn't translate in mono. Congrats on all the well deserved awards - not least for enduring the freezing conditions!

Superb photography Derek, the colour wins for me but had I only seen the monochrome conversion I would have gone for it right away. The icing literally on the cake is the frost in a wonderful composition.
