Hi folks,
And now for something different as they say......![]()
Does anyone else get mad/crazy ideas they want to turn into an image or photograph....?
My problem is way to many ideas, Most of them completely bonkers or impossible to reproduce without a vast budget......![]()
One of the criteria I set was that there should be very little in the way of alterations, It should be as straight from the shoot as possible, Obviously there are some things such as mono conversion, Levels, Tweaks here and there to full process etc, Then a little poetic license with the images on the TV screen
However the composition and props are as shot, Nothing ( except the tv screens ) has been cut/pasted after the frame was taken....![]()
These are my own rules, I impose them on myself because I feel it adds some extra effort when preparing, That also produces new twists & turns, The lighting for example was the product of several days trial and error, But I have learned a few new tricks along the way, So nothings wasted....![]()
Once again the whole effort was using a camera I'm not familiar with, Nikon D5100, With a very standard Nikon DX.AF-S Nikkor18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6 G VR lens.
Hardest part was deciding if I liked the mono version better than the colour version, Final decision was I like them both for different reasons, Therefore will upload them seperately as and when......![]()

Quote: wondering if it's a self-'portrait' ??.....we've all got our fetishes !!
LOL...Nice idea Keith, That would solve the modelling arrangements, Maybe next time......
It was fun asking several family friends if I could borrow thier legs.....![]()
Thanks Beverley, I'll explain all .....!!!
Hi Ya Nikki, Some crazy ideas for when the weather is rough.....LOL But great fun was had by all.....![]()
Its hard to explain the whole thing with the image, But it was borne from several ideas to help with those times when you struggle to get going on your photography....!!!
First thing is not to beat yourself up over hitting a creative brick wall, It happens to many people not just photography either, " Writers Block " is probably the same thing.
So first up is to chew over some ideas, Preferably with another person who is a photographer, Or imaginative type.....![]()
Next write down anything ( No matter how mad/crazy ) that comes from a brain storming session, Or that just pops into your mind.
Try where possible to keep it simple, Sometimes less is more springs to mind.....![]()
Next create a shopping list for location/props/model/subject etc etc.
Next try out a few test shots with a simple arrangement to see if its worth proceeding.....!!!
Next a full dummy run with lighting as it will be in the final product.
If all goes well and things are cooking do the actual shoot with all the ingredients......![]()
Now most of that will seem fairly obvious, The real problem is coming up with a theme or set of themes to start with.......
Not easy when your banging your head on a wall....!!!!
For example take an everyday thing like the " Television " almost everyone has one, Then as in this case think " Whats On The Telly " ....
But take it to the literal sense as in physically on the telly, After that its down to your own interpretation & imagination to develop the idea further.....![]()
From this simple idea I have loads and loads of spin off ideas, Some will wind up in the bin, But there is one or two that are looking like they will get an airing.
Just to add a little extra to the mix, Invent some rules for yourself, Like all components/props etc etc should be already to hand, Or borrowed/hijacked etc etc.
As with this image, Apart from the telly screen images, Everything else was in the catual shot, ie: No copy and paste etc etc......![]()
I try to keep the processing to a minimum, But thats just a personal thing, Though sometimes needs must as they say.....![]()
OK! Thats enough dribble from me today, Thank you one and all for votes and comments, Tis very inspiring indeed.....![]()
Regards Vince......![]()
Hi Vince,
After our bit of banter about the 'rubber ball camera' I decided to take a look for cameracat. I have been enjoying looking at your photos. This image caught my eye. I haven't seen the colour version you mention but this B&W shot is great.
Go well
Andy
