for me the colour one shows the age of the rails better in their oxidised state would be a real bumpy ride looking at the squiggly lines

The colour shows the lead in from the rails better, Ivor. A well chosen portrait format.

Both are great takes, but the colored one is superb. The rust of the rails is too good to hide in gray.
