Capparis spinosa, or caper, also called Flinders rose, is a perennial winter-deciduous plant that bears rounded, fleshy leaves and large white to pinkish-white flowers. The plant is best known for the edible flower buds (capers), often used as a seasoning, and the fruit (caper berry), both of which are usually consumed pickled. Other species of Capparis are also picked along with C. spinosa for their buds or fruits. Other parts of Capparis plants are used in the manufacture of medicines and cosmetics. The caper bush grows as a low mounding shrub to 2-3 ft tall with arching red stems and dark green, semi-succulent round leaves. From May until September plants bear a profusion of flower buds, which are the edible capers of commerce. Left unpicked these buds form delicately scented pinkish-white flowers, adorned with long lavender stamens, that open at dawn and close late in the afternoon. Vís 1 & 2 show the rather attractive bloom, Vís 3 & 4 the resulting fruits.

Such an attractive looking flower. Love the tones and details in V1 & 2. Have to say, a little less attractive when the flowering time is over!! Enjoyed your info too.

Also known as the Caper bush, strangely enough TongueGrin. I always called the seeds of the nasturtium plant capers so I've just googled it. Mine are the 'poorman's caper' Tongue.... figures!! Lovely juicy capture on v3, my favourite, Carol. And I'm feeling all edumacated this morning!!

A highly informative and interesting foreword Carol, supported by four equally impressive photographs, full co rich and wonderful colour, great detail, and something in which to admire. My particular favourite has to be photograph number III, simply because of its rather sticky and sumptuous form.

Took some shots of these when we were in Malta Carol, they were growing on the shoreline and we had to go out on numerous occasions just to get the timing right. A lovely set showing the bloom and delicate colours.
