A rest from the butterflies and bugs/beasties today, I thought I would upload a flower for you all. I spotted this beauty earlier in the week, a sure sign that summer is almost over.
Colchicum macrophyllum is an autumn flowering species of colchicum, growing in olive groves, abandoned fields and at the roadsides. The flowers are a pinky purple, but on rare occasions a white variety may be spotted. The large glossy leaves appear after the flower has faded, and last up until the following summer. Apart from Crete, these flowers can be found in the eastern Aegean islands and West Turkey.
Enjoy your weekend, everyone, I will be heading down to the beach shortly
