I went on a damsel/chaser hunt yesterday, but didn't find much, and the damsels I did spot insisted on loitering in shady areas, making it virtually impossible for me to capture any half-decent images.
They are more than half decent Carol! Two lovely images of this beautiful damselfly, love the silhouette effect in v2 it really shows off how hairy his legs are!! Super shots.
What can I say Carol? You have put a huge smile on my face with this amazing (Green) damsel! She shines like an emerald! Beautiful shot...
Have a lovely day,
V1 is very nice Carol.......Sandy
A really beautiful set of images Ray. I am not saying this works all the time but I have found if you find out where they are flying try placing long sticks/bean poles in the ground in that area, some times they will use the stick as a vantage point.. sitting on the side or top.
Aha.. tricks (or should that be sticks) of the trade I shall remember Ray's advice. A lovely iridescent green, Carol, and it fills the frame well in v1.
Wow Carol....2 superb images, well captured
A rather sulty and mysterious damsel in V2. I like it.
Two different but both super shots
You get some great ideas here but adding extra long bean poles to my camera kit will guarantee even more strange looks from the unenlightened British public! I think I'll just leave damsel fly shots to others!f
They just get better!
V 2 really is special.....
Two super images, Carol!
So well detailed!
Two fine images but I prefer No. 1.
Well photographed Carol.
I would call V 1 esp. rather better than 'half decent', Carol: excelent detail and iridescent greens captured.
Fabulous Carol - love the iridescent colours.
V1 for me Carol, a fine capture,
Has to be the stunning shot of V1 for me
You certainly managed a half decent image with this one Carol.
2 fantastic images and V2 is very scary. There are hundred's of these at Southampton Common.
Good captures one and all, like them both for different reasons , hard to pick a fav so half each.
A lovely lady she is too - even if she wasn't totally co-operative! Two good 'uns here, Carol, especially V1, my fave
V1 is beautifully judged and taken. I don't often want to fiddle with your composition, but could I suggest cropping a bit off the right, to take the diagonal of the stem up to the corner? The space on the right seems wasted and the left/centre of the frame heavy by comparison.
has to be V1 for me today Carol fine work indeed
Two cracking shots, Carol, love the green colour and wing movement in V1.
A super capture of what looks to me to be an Emerald Damsel.
The stick trick is not so effective with damsels but a nailed on
certainty with dragonflies.
one of your VERY BEST
LOVE THE CAROLS....oops THE COLOURS
Stunning beautiful V1 Carol, little bit too close for me the V2.
Damsels loitering in shady areas? That'll teach you to try and get insects shots in Soho.
Wonderful shot you've got in V1, though, Carol
And that's a good tactic with the bean poles!
Afternoon Carol - just
V1 has turned out remarkably well, considering the conditions you were under
+21C in the shade at work
V2 is incredible
These are much better than "half decent"!
Quite a set I'd say.
Having a lunchtime look in ! love V2 and they are decent (not the X rated birds and bees thing !)
Two great images and I like them both xx
Lovely shot, Carol.
Hi Carol v1 for me today, good capture
superb macro shots carol, love v1,excellent light and pin sharp.ray
A wonderfully sharp and extremely colourful Damsel Fly. Version number one being the pick of the pair.
V1 for me Carol....re the composition ...... you have left space for the fly to look into which in my view is how it should be....if there was room in the frame a slight tilt of the canvas to put the perch in the RH corner would be preferable, just my personal thoughts though
PS: ID: now made on my image today.
Beautiful captures, Carol!
Two fabulous shots Carol, both excellent for different reasons... But it's v2 for me!
v1 is stunning
well captured Carol
Top class macro Carol.:
wonderfully sharp pic.
V1 is lovely ....
A beautiful specimen Carol - lovely colours.
Are you trying to tell me that the damselflies did not co-operate and that they ignored your instructions, Carol? I can't believe it!
Absolutely wonderful Carol.
V1 for me.....gorgeous.
2 tremendous images!! Great detail!!
Well done Carol, V1 really nice detail and excellent colour.
Well Carol we're learning a few new tricks here about how some images come about!
Gorgeous emerald damselfly!
TWo brilliant shots Carol..Lin
Una gran captura.
love the rally stripes.. don't know about stick tricks?
Looks just like the emerald damselfly which i saw and photographed today at Coombe Hill nature reserve between Gloucester and Tewkesbury
