I believe this is a grayling, but a positive ID would be much appreciated. I spotted this poor fella fluttering around on the road, and I gently picked him up and put him on the nearest flower, hoping that he would recover his strength and eventually fly away. I left before he did, but I trust he is still out there somewhere, enjoying life.

Definitely a grayling of some sort Carol and two superb shots of him where you've captured his wing markings in such intricate detail. The only time I've seen one was on the coast of West Wales although they are supposedly found at Prestbury Hill, although i've never ever seen one in all my years of visiting the place.

Two cracking shots Carol, I've checked my reference book and it looks to be a Cretan Grayling which are common and widespread on the island.

Sadly when in the mountains in Spain i find many many road casualties, hope this little fella made it.
