I don't usually make a habit of photographing flies, but I spotted this one yesterday and couldn't resist it. It was larger than the normal fly, with wonderful markings on its wings and gold on its eyes. I hope someone out there can ID it for me.
He is quite pretty. Which is saying something for a fly. I like the spots on his wings. A great set Carol..........Sandy
Great set and well presented - as always excellent details.
What a lovely creature, beautifully captured of course.
A well taken set Carol, but I think a fly looks more attractive squished ...Bill
Great shot of a beautifully constructed creature of mother nature,i love the spots on the gossamer wings, and the maroon eyes.Personally i would say this was a fruit fly pollinating the flower whilst feeding. wish i could fly,it would save a lot of money on petrol.
I like you don't usually photo flies but as you say some are rather attractive. 3 super shots.
He/she does indeed have such delicate and pretty wings and a face which reminds me of Hoverflies. Do hope someone provides the ID soon so we all gt to know! Great details and a very pretty "perch" too.
three belters carol wonderful detail and colours love the wings v2 for me today a cracker nice one
Isn't it pretty! My favourite is version 2, it shows all the wonderful details brilliantly! As for ID, you've stumped me here, I can't find it at all - I shall keep an eye on further comments, hopefully someone else will know.
For a fly it is one of the prettier ones with beautiful detail in the the wings, especially in V2 and V3 Carol.
Unusual, maybe its a Mediterranean type.
Wonderful and fantastic set of images, very well done,
Lovely soft colours which adds to the beauty of the fly
Well spotted Carol
Certainly does have beautiful wings, as your shots show. 3 good ones Carol. No idea what it is though. Moira
He really is a beauty ... those wings are something else
A vote for V1 today .... but all really are soooo good.
excellent set and positioning of the fly my choice today is V2
Excellent detail in all of them.
A vote for V2, it stands out! Angle, composition, detail.
Three excellent captures Carol, V1 for me excellent clarity.
superb capture as always Carol
Sorry Carol, I draw the line at calling a fly 'attractive' a fly will do nicely......
But must say you have captured him rather attractively
I've never really fancied a fly before, but I can see what you mean, Carol Those eyes......has to be a female
Great detail. Ollie blows many DSLR shots away! Keep 'em coming.
V2 shows his unusual wings to perfection. He is rather dapper.
Gorgeous-never thought I'd say that about a fly .The wings are like mother of pearl.Have been snapping bees this a.m. Gill
The wings are beautiful Carol and you have made him look very attractive - but flies.....ugh!!

Three smashing and detailed captures Carol.
Well taken, lucky fly.
Another superb trio of images Carol - I don't know if I can go with attractive but it is certainly different!! Lou
"My my, attractive fly, what utterly huge eyes you have!
All the better to eyeball you with, my dear."
Carol, when you said you weren't in the habit of photographing flies, I thought you were messing about. You know, 'cos you're like the insect lady 'n' all (that's a compliment, by the way)...and then I thought, "Ahh...but maybe not so much flies...".
Glad you broke with tradition and caught this fella. Gorgeous features! I've been trying to capture this very pretty fly which seems to be suddenly visiting an in-bloom Phalaenopsis violacea daily.
Really like V3 Carol - I have seen some of these over here.
