Scrabo Tower near Newtownards, County Down
Quote: Scrabo Tower is located to the west of Newtownards in County Down, Northern Ireland.
The landmark, which is visible from most of north Down, was built on a volcanic plug above the town in 1857 as a memorial to Charles Stewart, 3rd Marquess of Londonderry who was one of the Duke of Wellington's generals during the Napoleonic Wars. The 3rd Marquis, or "Warring Charlie" as he was also known, inherited the title and family seat of Mount Stewart after his brother, the 2nd Marquis, committed suicide. The 2nd Marquis is better known as Viscount Castlereagh who served a term as Britain's Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs

A very impressive building, very well shot.
I had a bit of a play. Since you'd allowed mods, it seemed rude not to. ![]()
I think this is definitely a candidate for mono conversion, i liked the two done davey, so had a different play with it:-
1) Brightened and increased the contrast, vibrance of the color version
2) Converted to mono and gave it a bit of a sepia tone to the whole thing
Hope you like it ![]()
Cheers
Excellent detail in the tower, the exposure is spot on, I do prefer the colour version to any of the mods.
Regards
Trev.
Quote: What a wonderful, quirky building. It's like something out of a fairy tale - Rapunzel, maybe (though, of course, her tower only had the one window
). Very well photographed against a marvellous sky.

We always call it the Rapunzel tower
It stands proud on the hilltop but this was the first time that we had climbed up to see it at close quarters. On a Sunday you can climb the 192 steps inside (so I'm told!) ![]()
Good shot of this excellent tower and great write up too ![]()
