Back to Tewkesbury tonight - I've just been browsing the pictures I took a few weeks ago and thought this one might be worthy of uploading. It looks like I'd made a start on it as I had a tone-mapped version sitting in the folder so I just duplicated that layer, changed the blend to screen and dropped that down a bit in an attempt to brighten it up a bit.
Chances are it's still a bit dark but I do tend to drift towards the dark side!

The darkness carries the mood beautifully, excellent work,.
Tom.
Blimey - I turn my back for a bit and there you all are
Thank you all very much!
That's a busy road so every shot I took had something driving through it sadly. That said, I chose this shot as the blue of the vehicle matched the bicycle in the foreground so figured it sort of balanced out!
Tone Mapping is a wonderful tool Ron - I use Photomatix which has had quite a bit of discussion on here in the context of HDR shots. I've yet to master it but it does a cracking job of balancing out a picture like this where the alley was originally a touch on the dark side. I'm working on it ![]()
Excellent shot Alison and well worth the Ec you have got yourself. The blues match up very nicely.
Scott
Congratulatons on both of your well deserved awards.
I think it's a fantastic image.
Love how you've taken it from in the alley out to the main road.
I like the bike as well.
Hilary
Alas fair maid I do bow before thy ever incressing talent.Methinks I will be PM ing thee in future! Absolutley stunning, very well deserved EC Allison
Colin
Good morning everyone and thank you again.
I must admit that this was a bit of an "I'm incredibly busy but can't resist uploading tonight image" and it deserves a bit more tweaking.
That's one thing I've yet to master Keith - the noise - on other pictures I've applied noise reduction to both layers which of course results in a more 'painterly' image but I didn't feel like going that route with this one. Heck - it's all part of the learning process and I'll get it all sussed eventually - it's not for want of trying and I'm thoroughly enjoying it!
At least I'm learning not to take any notice of curious people peering at me as I lurk down alleyways, I'm self conscious for about 10 minutes and then don't give a fig!
Excellent treatment really has lifted the shaded area and balanced the pic. Hearty congrats on the well deserved EC. Bruce ![]()
Congratulations on a well-deserved EC. It's a fine image.
Dave
I see what Keith means but I really like it. I never see this kind of brick work where I live, as it would all fall over the next earthquake!
Patrick
Thank you again everyone.
Indeed I'm going to work this one over again sometime soon Patrick to see what I can do about the noise. There's plenty of brickwork like this in Tewkesbury and quite a lot of it looks as though a gentle nudge would topple it
The weekend is almost here - I have my bus time-tables at the ready and I'm just hoping for reasonable light and no rain.
Hello again and thank you all
Hey, I might make it into triple figures for the first time with this effort - hint hint ![]()
It's amazing what a little nudge in the right direction does Tony - thanks for that nudge! This technique has opened my eyes to so much more than just flowers!
It's hard finding decent locations around my neck of the woods and the blasted day job does rather get in the way of getting out and about. I shall persevere though and see what else I can find over the coming weeks.
Hi Jonny and thanks for taking a look.
I went back to the same spot a while back to try some more shots but sadly they didn't really come out as well. At least it's only a short bus-ride away so I can get back there this year and try again - I'd like some without the gentleman in the frame so maybe I'll succeed one day!
Missed this Alison - and I absolutely love it. Very worthy of its Awards - despite Keith's misgivings! ![]()
Lovey shot and great explaination of how to do it - thanks.
