Thanks everyone - I'll have to have a mooch round the building again one lunchtime and see what else I can find. Mind you the only other set of stairs are what would have been the ones used by the servants - a poky dark little flight down to the back of the building.

Those corners are a bit tight for when you are sliding down the bannister

I've never tried sliding down the bannister - very tempting but I'm not prepared to risk it - especially with a ruddy great window right at the end of that first flight!
