A Swallowtail butterfly riding in the wind on a wispy old seed head...
... rather like the melting tail of a comet!... backlit by the setting sun...
A superb image, fabulous light and what an unusual sight. Like riding a rocket...........Sandy
Beautiful clarity, Tim. Ron.
An absolute cracker.
A breathtakingly beautiful image Tim, this swallowtail looks like it is floating in the air
They don't get any better
Magical light,a real stunner.
A well compiled image, mixture of photoshop and machaon manipulation put to good effect!
with Mike smith.... and it takes macro to another level.. pure professionalism at its best Tim !!!!
'Superb & lovely image rendering'...LEx
absolutely stunning capture, fantastic lighting and detail
Well Done. Great capture.
Simply stunning. Carol
Superb Tim. That perch does add a great effect to the image - beautiful butterfly and love the backlighting.
Beautiful well captured image
Brilliant shot, Tim.
Beautifully done Tim !
Top notch Tim, went and had a search for some large blues on Thursday, although we saw one or two specimens we couldn't get anywhere near them. Not much in the way of Wild Thyme about at the moment though, so we think that was the reason why, going to give it another week and hopefully we'll have better luck, as they say watch this space!.....Congrats on the well earned HC BTW.
Exquisite work as always Tim, congrats on the awards.
One to be proud of!
Wow, I'm truly overwhelmed by all the superb comments!... You all made my day, I have been insanely busy lately, various shoots and weddings coming out of my ears... work is a good thing to a point!
Thanks Pete and Tammy for the awards!
Ade, I wish I could see a Large Blue one of these days. John (Fishiee) found some around here last year... but I doubt I'll have a chance to go check them out.
We only get wild thyme here in early spring then it's gone. I'm surprised you get it coming out this late in the year.
Absolutely gobsmacking! Excellent details, wonderful DOF and great colours! Top-notch!
Congratulations on the awards! Well deserved!
It only just occurred to me why some of you thought this was a Photoshop effect. Actually when I said "riding" in the wind I meant hanging on despite the wind. The seed head is attached to a stem and fixed to the ground. The shallow focus hides most of the stem so we get the impression it's all floating, this is more about technique and very little PS except to clean up some specks here and there.
Those of us who have been following you for years would know you don't rely on PS but one can understand some folk getting confused as to how the hell you do it! Quite remarkable.
PS Glad you're getting the work in. Wondered where you were
Congratulations on a superb capture.
stunning capture,well done indeed.ray
A cracker Tim! The one year I don't come to Provence early June and out they all come. Typical!
Love how the stem 'disappears' with the shallow DOF. I guessed that was the cause of it and not photoshop, and the EXIF does confirm it. F5.6. Very good
Large Blues - I can remember the precise clearings where I found them last year Tim at exactly this time last year. It's about a quarter of the distance that I have to travel in the UK to see them (hopefully in a weeks time). You know you can do it! Western Marbled Whites in the same location and there's the Black Veined Whites on the way home too while you're at it!
Thanks for the encouragement John! Now I'll just have to go look!
Thanks again to everyone for the very kind comments!
The bride will turn up late anyway, so you can spare half an hour I'm sure!
That's a very well taken image,
Your images are always spectacular and this one is no exception!
Hi Tim been away for a month, a superb shot to come back to, regards gray
