One of my fave walks from Grasmere and onto Easdale Tarn. We took a rather quiet path yesterday and skirted around Codale Tarn. Making our way back along the ridge to Helm Crag and down to a much welcome pint.
For some reason the tragic events of 1808 were in my mind most of the walk.

Unfortunately in 1808 George and Sarah Green who were living at Blind Tarn Cottage, Easedale left their six children at home to journey across the fells for provisions. They perished in a blizzard near Lang How Tarn never to return to their children who spent the next few days alone in the cottage. Subsequently William Wordsworth who had recently taken up residence in Allen Bank offered Agnes, the eldest child of the Greens, a position in service and thus a home.
