Hi Mick my crop was a little further out than yours getting the long grass bottom right to form a corner, and the cropping bar was then on the top of the turret on the right shame that there is no mod here to upload it to show you but in IMHO shows the view off better than the V1 with all that grass in the F/G and you can zoom in not loosing anything really too, great shot one to be proud off. Chen.
Very difficult shot to catch, could not get it with my kit I feel, but will be going to Hill Head Haven bird sanctuary early Sept to have a go. It is a little dark for my tastes, so easy to cure, just got in a little closer and a bit brighter, just a small crop, and a turn of the brightness dial, hope you like the Mod. Chen.
Great shooting and all I did in my Mod was crop the shot, and zoomed in once, with a few tweaks, nothing major...in that except that it is a Sardine that is in the Puffins' beak.
I would like to do this sort of thing too and will sooner or later...I think that you B/G is a bit off and people like the pure white B/G that I have put in my Mod, except the bit at the foot of the shot on the right...was a quick selection...I feathered it by 2pixels and blew it out, then went back to him, used a little curve adjustment, and sharpened just once...I thought that your version was just not bright enough for a print, but please remember I am just getting a little work now not a pro by any means just yet...This is how I would have presented this shot to the customer, but showing him both versions...letting him make up his mind. Thanks for sharing the shot. Chen.
Good job Andrew, very nice idea must have been quite a moment when the shot came out like this for you, congrats, I would put a halo round him, and dull those highlights on his left hand, and with a large feather, it would darken the B/G some more for a better print...A truly inspirational shot. Chen.
Hi Neil I enhanced the FG like Willie said just selected the slope of the hill and feathered, then coloured and sharpened with the unsharp mask, balanced the BG hills and cropped in just a tad, the original would give a better result of course, just added a little FG interest, with the sharpening and colour, on what I think is a true African Landscape, hope you like it, and try my idea on the original and get a print.
It is a terrific shot, and a well timed capture, but I feel, if it is cropped, and of course it might not be...it is cropped a little too close, and needs a few masterly little tweaks...Yes I know that the bush is sandy, and a little dull, looking...quite just like this... but for a photo, to be really enjoyed, for a shot on the wall for my eyes, it just needs some curves, and a few bounces in the colours, + a little sharpening. Chen.
This is not as good as many of your others Dennis, I cant retouch skin like this yet, but I feel your selection could have been much closer here, I would have used a diffuser with the cam flash, and got a bit closer too here, that would have stopped the lip H/Lights and softened their faces to make for less processing after the shot.
There is a lot of good advice in the above comments, but for me...it is just composition, closer to the ground... I would have moved to the right a little more, to have shown how the path runs down to the foreshore, perhaps I would have got a breaking wave in that short of shot, and the excessive bush on the left would have been caught at a different POV...
This is a long way out, and an an attempt at a manual shot was a good try, but not a flattering shot that he would like to keep.
Hi Matt I will add to my last post, and try to image this without the shot...GFL...
