kombizz - the original is bitingly sharp, but to achieve the effect I wanted, I duplicated a layer and added Gaussian Blur then reduced fill amount to the level I liked. The focus is central and to the upper edges of the gently unfolding petals. I'll upload the sharp version tomorrow. Thanks for your comments.
