The sun fell directly onto the stalk of this Heliconia rostrata inflorescence and made it glow beneath this black ant. It was such a lovely morning that day. Blue skies, birds chirping, glowing heliconias, contrasty ants...

...speaking of which, I applied contrast to this pic to see if it would make it better but it took something away from the fineness of the Heliconia's hairs. So I left this pic untouched.

Thank you!

It's a pity some sharpness was lost in resizing but to be honest, it wasn't totally crystal like some of the amazing (intimidatingly so) insect shots I've seen. I'm still quite happy with this shot, though Smile

Superb Macro Shot. You were right to leave this photograph alone. How did you achieve such a sharp focus on the ant? Marvellous. regards Robin

Thanks, Robin! This is such an entry level camera but I discovered it's got this Super Macro function which astounds me. I love close-ups so this function's capabilities were more than a pleasant surprise. The only thing is, movement is a major issue in this mode so I had to reeeeeeally regulate my breathing before holding my breath when I took this.

They're at their best when they're contrasty, methinks.

The bright orange certainly brings out the great close-up of the ant, well taken.
