Hello!

Ah…ze end of ze short leetle seerees…Numero 5.

I took my mum to her friend Vivien's place on Sunday and while there, I found lots of things to photograph. As such, I decided to precede each title with 'Viv' to indicate it's part of the same series.

-----

Out on Vivien’s patio sat – along with a few other plants – this pot of begonias. I LOVE begonias: they’re my favourite foliage plant. And this one was just delicious. So I leaned over it and took 3 pics. The 3 pics were almost identical but this was marginally the best.

What I love about this pic is how I didn’t do anything to it. After cropping and resizing it, I just sharpened it (‘cos of the resizing) slightly.

Hope you like it!

A.

Wow...thanks, Ann!!

I didn't use any effects at all, actually. The picture is unaltered apart from slight sharpening after resizing - so yeah, I gotta give major credit to the begonia herself for being THAT good looking! lol

I'm a sucker for plants lol and you've managed to get great detail on the leaves and the colours are enhanced even more by the 'metallic' feel - colour of the framing compliments the pic too... Well done.

BUT... have you short changed us?? I thought there was a series of 7 and this one says its the last :-(....

Thanks, Bri, crunchie and Karen!

Karen, I actually didn't do anything metallic to the shot! lol

It's as I took it. Once I viewed the image on my computer screen, the leaves struck me as having a metallic quality and so I called 'em Metallic Begonias.

I might try and change the title 'cos I don't want anyone to think I added anything metallic to the pic!...ha!ha! The metallic brilliance comes purely from the leaves and not me. That IS some begonia, isn't it??

As for the series becoming 5, I'll pop into your site now and tell you about it Smile

Hi Andrew....

sorry I probably didn't digest the comments on yesterdays pic properly as I was at work... dipping in and out of EPZ - just call me an addict lol.... today I've had server probs and finally got here yippeeeee

I did read you hadn't done anything metallic to the begonias but it was certainly an added bonus .... I've been trawling through pics and got scanner working so i have more images to work on lol.... mind you I have a manipulation in mind if I can get my hand on a pic jessica rabbit lol!!!!!

Can't wait for tomorrows upload now i've 'persuaded' you to continue the series... I'm sure they'll be just as good..... if you're like me the ones you think will fail usually do the best Smile

Hi Karen!! So nice to find you here.

Yeah...an addict...tell me about it! It's terrible, isn't it??...lol

No worries about not digesting my description of the begonias properly - I can get rambly Smile

NOW THEN...I am SO looking forward to your next image!! Is it gonna be of you? No, don't tell me. I wanna be surprised.

As for my next two pics, REALLY nothing special, especially the next pic. Doesn't matter; it'll be nice just sharing 'em with you.

Alan, thanks so much for the compliment. I really am quite chuffed with how this turned out. Begonia leaves are somehow very photogenic but these REALLY surprised me.

Hi Andrew,
A truly wonderful image of these beautiful leaves.
They have such a soft velvety feel to them, & I think you have captured that in your image.
Well done.

Andrew, this is superb. The metallic look that the begonia has is wonderful, and you've captured that so well. This is a beauty - such an abstract feel. Keep the photos coming - I so love dipping in to your gallery here to see what you've come up with next!

Thanks guys, for all your head-swelling comments...lol

Robin, as much as I hate to, I really have to hand over most of the credit to the begonia. I didn't even set the camera to manual mode so as to be able to center the focus. I leaned over the begonia in normal mode and let the camera's 9-point focusing to its thing. Flash was on auto. And that was it. I kid you not.

I've noticed from the past - when I took lots of pictures of flowers and plants in my mum's garden with film - that begonia leaves are THE most photogenic flora subjects. In how well they come out with minimal manipulation. And let's face it...when I used film, there was NO manipulation. I sent each roll to my usual minilab and the pictures came back later that day.

So yeah...begonias TOTALLY rock. And heliconia (I'm a heliconia freak. Orchids second) inflorescences come a close second.
