More of the Snowdrops from my garden.

Lots of layers & textures to this one ( more than usual Wink).
A technique I have been playing about with for a long time now, this one is so almost there for me but not quite....yet , a bit of a case of trial & error, much more error but I will get there eventually.
I find it difficult to accept one of my images without sharpness & detail & had to keep biting my lip whilst applying softness & diffusion,it would have been so very easy to give up,wipe all the layers away & start again in a very different direction.
I quite like the finish here, whilst dark it does have some light & life to it...the print looks stunning BTW,fabulous colours against a white mount....one for a future Camera Club competition methinks.
Anyway, enough of my ramblings, lets see what you think
.... so....
....thanks for dropping in,now you have gotten thus far you might as well say something, good, bad or indifferent but please be constructive Smile
Janet xx

Great image. It should do well in your camera club competition or even at a higher level like PAGB.

Yesterday's was superb, Janet, this one is just a bit too 'blurred' for me. I do like the composition though, with the leaves stretching diagonally from one corner to the other.

I love the finish you have got here. The softness is great for me but purists might find it a bit strong on the flowers themselves. The effect on the bottle is great and I love the way the colours complement.

PAGB is still a ways off for me Ted but I do intend to go for it sooner or later !
Thanks Erica...that effect has to be even stronger to get where I need to be...softly,softly catchy monkey Wink

It has a touch of the Diane Owen's mixed with your unquie style Janet, I like it and would think it looks even better as a print.

I've been taught to go for sharp also, so texturing etc is a mystery to me too
in regards to what to leave and what to erase!
I do like this - love the bottle - I have some similar - love the three snowdrops and symmetry of leaves
and I love the textures.
A winner in my eyes.

For me, this is pushing the boundary between a photograph and a painting. The bg is fab, so skilfully done. I do like the darker tones in it and can imagine it set off beautifully with a white mount. I actually prefer your previous snowdrop photo because there are more flowers and I like the shape and plain glass of the vase. Blush
PS Lesson 3 has had to go on the back burner for the past couple of days...I'm itching to have a go, hopefully tomorrow.

I always admire your images and especially your processing - do you use your own textures? I do like the textured layers here but understand the need to maintain a bit more detail. A dilemma as I like the result! Smile

The strength of detail and colour is in the bottle which anchors the arrangement well.
I like the fact that you have retained vertical green lines in the bottle - and I love the soft flowing leaves and snowdrops SmileSmile

Looking at the quailty of your images I would say your images would do well at CPAGB or above. At the PAGB adjudication in November it appeared that they had a preference for digitally manipulated images. The only straight shots that got through were wildife shots. You would have no bother picking ten images out of this portfolio and giving it a go.

Great shot. I can see how this shot would look brilliant printed on a textured paper and on a nice white mount. Trouble is that it would probably be lost on your average camera club judge. Its on a higher level than that. You should start to send some of your mounted prints out on the exhibition circuit, -they would do very well.

Thanks everyone.
Nice mod with a drop of extra light Dave, thankyou.

Yes indeed, but there are some these days who have moved with the times & see things in a different light...thankfully !

Quote: You would have no bother picking ten images out of this portfolio and giving it a go

This year will be my 2 years of Club membership so I am only able to have a bash at the CPAGB until next year when the DPAGB will be open to me.

Quote: do you use your own textures?

Yep...unless I am experimenting with stuff & I haven't got the right one...I go find one then try to recreate it ( to a point) myself. For competition work the authors have to use all their own images so I find myself taking pictures of all sorts of strange things to keep for such an occasion. Now I have a nice big collection of textures that are mine, all mine Wink
