This happens when the droplet launching up from the spout at it's height is still going up so that when a second droplet coming down hits it then it punches through the middle.

Canon Speedlite 580EX-II with light blue gel firing from about 30cm up down at 45 degrees. 430 EX-II below it firing directly into the back of the splash (Darker blue gel) with a frosted perspex diffuser about 30cm in front of them.

Well done Chris. The reverse Parasol is much rarer than the normal Parasol and you also have the reflection of the collision. Nicely lit from the flashes and good colour in the droplet.

Great shot. have been meaning to give this a go. We had a guy who specialised in the come to the club to give us a talk about it. He got his FIPF (Fellowship of the Irish Photographic Federation) with this as his themed panel. He used antifreeze as the liquid for this. Highly toxic he said so had t be careful using and disposing of it.

He said that the viscosity of it was better than water and the droplets held together longer.

What liquid did you use here ?

If I remember rightly this was simple water. With added food dye to make the red colour (Blue is coloured with light) however I may have added some glycerin to the mix to make it more viscous, Occasionally I use soap to lower the surface tension but you can end up with odd shaped spouts if you add too much Smile

I have been meaning to try with other liquids, oil is too thick, milk however makes a really good splash, will upload some of those next. I'm not sure I could be trusted with toxic chemicals Smile

Lovely effect and very well lit. In terms of criticism - you could spend a little time to clean up the dust from the surface of the water. Some of the marks to the centre of the reflected image appear almost like dust spots on your sensor rather than dust floating on the waters surface. Once noticed they are rather distracting.
