In late winter, significant temperature fluctuations are not uncommon. When the temperatures are relatively warm, the landscape is covered with a haze due to strong evaporation from the much colder ice and snow cover. Together with the rising sun, this can result in truly beautiful, magical light.
This was the case this morning in the Thousand Islands Region, Ontairo, Canada. You are seeing an image taken on the frozen St. Lawrence River with a small island, so characteristic of this region, in the background.
I loved how the ice crystals form a compelling soft foreground element, in harmony with the peaceful and beautiful scene that I was able to witness.
