I loved the movement and direction in the clouds, racing out to sea and wanted to capture that movement and drama whilst ensuring the image remained clean and simple.

First shot I've seen from a 1Dx and an absolute cracker. For once, I don't want a figure in there. A superb mono conversion and classy composition. No crit, great work.

Its significantly oversharpened. Every line has a halo, so just a little less enthusiasm with sharpening and its a fine shot, great tonal range, and a nice combination of camera and glass. Assign sRGB before uploading, otherwise we have to fiddle with converting in Photoshop.

Hi all,

Thanks for the positive comments so far.

@ Willie, I have not applied any sharpening to this image at all. Maybe something to do with the upload?

Best,

Chris

I agree that the halo is a distraction - pity because this is one of the rare instances where perfect symmetry does work for me. Assuming that it's not there in your file - How do you resize for the site - or do you leave it to the site to do that?

Maybe Chris, - how did you process it and re size it. Im sure you can see the issue on the site? We can figure it out the more we know.

My work flow is:
Import to Lightroom
Make global adjustments
Targeted adjustments in photoshop
Convert to black and white in silver efex pro
Back into Lightroom
Export

Must be me. Struggling to see much of a halo. Still think this is very good indeed. The effect works for me, whateve.

I have no experience of Lightroom, someone else will probably come in on that; but I was asking specifically about resizing the image for uploading here. Uploads appear on the site at a maximum of 1000 pixels per side and you can either resize yourself or leave that to the site to do automatically. I always opt for the former so that I can check the result carefully for any distortions arising from the process!

Ah - we may have the solution - I didn't realise there was a size limit. I uploaded the image at 2048 x 2048 so I wonder is the halo some people are seeing is due to the site re-sizing the image?

Chris it does look over sharpened, how much clarity adjustment did you use in Lightroom? And what were your structure settings in Silver EFEX as both these are basically sharpening in all but name.

Shame as the basics make a cracking image.

Its the re sizing Chris, - youve given that all important task to the EPZ machinery, while you need to control it.
