I visited the Landmark: the Fields of Photography on the opening day and I was struck by a very dark image of Big Ben where only the highlights could be made out. The memory of that image forms the inspiration of this image taken at Perch Rock, New Brighton. It was taken as the tide was coming in and being a Spring tide I had to work fast. Lucky for me a friendly lifeguard took an interest so watched my back. I decided to under expose the frame so the brilliant highlights on the lighthouse stood out against the dark brooding sky. When processing I decided to lighten the image slightly for screen, but it looks stunning untouched and printed dark! It was the first trip out, and the first shoot with my Birthday Present – a Zeiss 35 1.4 so I was delighted with the result, but as always I welcome feedback and there is always room for improvement.
