I think that this would work better if you'd been able to take the shot completely head-on.
In other words, so that the background was the same on both sides.
Could do with a touch of fill-in flash too. Not when you took the shot necessarily, I don't suppose the cow would have appreciated that much but there's a slider for it in Lightroom. I'd add some catchlights at the same time.
I quite like it though.

I like it, but I would have straightened angle using rotate tool, also I think I would have included more of the head and nose, I do like photos in letterbox formats like this though, I think it would have been good sacrificing part of left ear so you could have got more of the body in to fill frame up, if you have original image try it, I think it would work OK.

Interesting crop this, it reminds me a little of a shot a friend of mine put into a competition once, have a look as it might give you some other ideas for this type of image.
