During the summer one of my children came running in to me to tell me that there was a huge caterpillar in the water in the paddling pool, so i went outside to find this big beauty at the bottom of the water, i plucked him out as fast as i could and to my surprise and relief he was still alive....... yay!!!!!
I have to say i was really shocked by the size of him, I really love catepillars, as when i was a child my dad built me a caterpiller house and my dad and I used to go on long walks through the countryside find caterpillars and bring them home with some of the leaves they eat, then look after them till they turned in butterflies or moths, then let them go out into the big wide world, but in all my years of Caterpillar hunting i had never seen a caterpillar the size of this one.
anyway after some googling i discovered he's an Elephant Hawk Moth, Caterpillar he's about 8 - 9 cm long and thicker than my finger, after finding out he likes to eat Fuschia leaves we moved him to a friends garden so he had lots af food, haven't seen him since but i really think he's so beautiful, hopefully he'll come back and see me after his transformation so i can get a few more snaps of him,
hope you all like him as much as i do
