Fabulous shot - they are about early - perhaps some types are earlier than others. You have captured the wings and the detail superbly well.

Wow, the thumbnail doesn't do this justice. Loads of detail. They have great camouflage!

Thanks to everyone for taking the time to look and comment. I'm very pleased with this shot especially as it was handheld.

This was taken at a local RSPB reserve this morning. The weather was very kind today, although still no kingfishers around yet there were several of these dragon flies and small blue butterflies around.

Excellent shot of a female Hairy Dragonfly. Saw my first of these a couple of weeks back and captured one myself tonight on a short walk after work where I saw 20+ of them.

Brilliantly harp with great depth of field!
