| Nik software Thanks for the info russellsnr, if I go ahead will ty that.
RobboB, my sentiments as well. As long as it's supported for the foreseeable future, as I said earlier, I will be tempted, but not this week. |

| Nik software I see that Nik Software has a heavy discount on all their products in an all in one package. All 6 products for $149 as a direct download (can't seem to see an expiry date for end of the discount). Does it apear as if either Nik Software is being phased out by Google, or new software about to be released, or just competing with other software makers in a competitive market? Even their website has changed since last week.
I must admit I'm tempted. Nik Software |

| Disabled transport within Manchester Airport My wife has severe OA of her hips & knees & is severely disabled as far as walking is concerned. When we travel (my wife is American so we travel to the US on a regular basis) we always contact the airline & ask for help such as wheelchairs, & access to the aircraft. We have always had good service from the airlines & airport staff no matter which airports we travel from & to.
So, your best bet is get in touch with the airline & ask them about disability help. Hope that helps. |

| Product photography A question has been put to me by one of my wife's friends.
If one was to take a photograph of a named product, e.g. Apple, Samsung, etc, is permission required from the manufacturer/trademark holder in order to sell the photo for gain, for example for stock photography? Chris |

| NEW LENSES Hi Hobbo, congrats on the 'new 'eyes'.
I had mine both done 11 years ago, & what a difference they made (I was rather young at 42 when they were done). You'll see more than you've ever done before. It was like having vaseline (the only way to describe the before effect) removed from my viewing. Keep to the initial regime of eye care & you'll be back to normal (albeit with better vision) in no time. By the way, my close vision suffered as well, but you learn how to get around that, my middle to long distance viewing is very, very, good. Good luck Chris In Lenses

| Laptop Cooling Mat/Stand Coleslaw, I have the Belkin Laptop Cooling stand (no. 2 in your list), but it is really designed for tables & desks. Great stand in general & for cooling. but the cooling fan is of an open type , leaving it to possibly catch on clothing &/or, most importantly, can create a further heat build up between the lap & the computer as it doesn't dissipate the heat well.
Hope that helps. |

| Grant Arms Hotel On a personal level, I can say it's a very good hotel, great atmosphere, & good food. They have good connections with a lot of wildlife societies & have many returning customers. Stayed there last March & had a great time. (Personal disclaimer though: my wife's old boss is one of the deputy managers there, so we had top brick off chimney to some degree, can still recommend it though.

| Replacement laptop batteries Ok, called them, but the new battery from these guys will require additional software update including a BIOS update (all included on a CD supplied) in order for it to function on my laptop. Must admit I'm not at all happy with anything that adjusts or plays with the BIOS, unless it's a full official Sony update.
Any other ideas? In Computers

| Replacement laptop batteries Thanks for that info. Unfortunately Sony are out of stock of a replacement & have been for the last 6 months, according to 2 customer reps I have spoken to, it appears as if they are no longer going to keep it in stock. This has also been the same for Sony in the USA. So, I may be forced to use a non-Sony/generic one for replacement.

| Replacement laptop batteries Happy New Year to you all.
I would like some advice please. I'm looking for a company that supplies replacement laptop batteries that are usually similar or the same as the OEMs'. I have a Sony Vaio Z series notebook, bought 3 years ago. The original battery appears to be fine with no real issues, but as it's getting old & I'm concerned that one day it'll give out & I'll be left high & dry. So I'm looking for a replacement/spare. The OEM battery is no longer supplied by Sony, so I'm having to look elsewhere. The nearest I can see that is closest to the specification of the original comes from Batterymag.co.uk. This is the original battery info from Sony. Has anyone had any dealings with this company? Or, has anyone got another good source of laptop replacement batteries that can be recommended? | An open note to all Shops big and small, I agree wholeheartedly.
My wife is disabled, and a recent trip to our local Tesco resulted in me complaining to the manager that one of the aisles was too tight with a display stand & that her wheel chair knocked it over as we were manoeuvring around a corner. She was very polite & apologised saying she would get on to it right away. Another trip to our local Debenhams, in order to get my wife some make-up, was also so tightly packed with displays that she couldn't manoeuvre see what was available & had to ask an assistant for help. Not ideal at this busy time of year (or at any other time). So, please make sure that your shops, stalls, or areas are easily reached by ALL. Thank you. |

| Petrol Prices in the States Having lived in the States until very recently I can understand the UK's attitudes to the way Americans use (& abuse) gas. But, most cars over there are now getting more economical, although there's a long way to go to achieve European style gas economics. But having said that, our Toyota Camry 2.8L got around 30-38 miles to the US gallon on a good run, but did drop to 28 MPG(US) on town or local runs.
The problem is most of the US populous appears to be rural or semi-rural based. Where I lived in Virginia any city of over 40,000 (which were both almost 40 miles away) were 150 miles to the north, 105 miles to the east, 180 miles to the south & to the west 200 miles. The railroad around where I used to live is often sparse or primarily designed for goods movement (coal, aggregates, etc) which are slow moving, very long, & the railroad (which has probably not been updated for decades) itself often had to negotiate & circumnavigate heavy mountainous regions. As I said most of the area was rural & mountainous requiring 4x4 SUVs & pick-up trucks especially to get through the often heavy winter weather. So, in many ways I can see both sides to the story. |

| iPhone 4 - Do I? Being in the US, I can testify that, from most tech forums here, the iPhone 4 is having major issues. Plus, there is a Public Class Action suit against Apple ongoing for the signal issues. There is a lot of negativity with the iPhone 4 at present. And on those reports & problems alone I would hold off going for it until it's all sorted.
Presently, according to most techies over here, the Android phones are now the "new" phone to have. |

| Cheap flights to the USA It all depends on when you're going.
We've managed to get my step-daughter, her partner, & their baby a round trip of 10 days (Edinburgh - Washington DC Dulles via Heathrow) for a total $1500 (approx 995 Pounds) for March 23 by going direct to BA, booking last week. But it was done thorough the US site of BA not the UK variant, not sure if the prices are better booking from here in the US or not. My wife checked out most of the internet deals & still BA were cheaper by $100 plus at the time of booking. Had it been a week later & Easter would've bumped up the ticket price to nearly $2000 an increase of nearly $500. |

| Somehow, you've got to laugh.... It was originally proposed by the Bush administration, which most the crtics were skeptical of its implementation, by all but the neo-cons, on the basis of privacy.
But back in November Virginia elected a rather right wing Christian Republican governor & assistant governor, so the ultra right wing Christians are upping the stakes so to speak. They use certain notions that would rally the less than well educated (& the right wing Christian faithful) to rebuke it rather than use the privacy issues situation. It's partly about control off the masses. |

| Where are they? @MikeRC, that's what I thought, 33 years, not even a pull by the boys (or gals) in blue in that time.
Then what happens, I got pulled over here in the US on an interstate, 80 in a 65 limit & only a couple of months after getting my Virginia state drivers license. Got points & fairly hefty fine for my lapse. Mind you, the cop that did me was very polite, even being very apologetic for having pulled me over, & as it was my first offense, I wasn't charged for reckless driving. But, now I'm much more cautious. The state troopers have a tendency to hide within in the wide medians on the interstates, so they can't be seen until they pull out behind, with all 15 or so lights flashing! So, the moral is never tempt fate. Lol. |
