Good morning.....
So glad you all like my leopard, he was rather cute.
A big thank you to Kathrynlouise, Fred263 and Irishkate for their UA's, much appreciated.
Today the sleek Cheetah....we in South Africa like to say we have a Big 6.....
We came across her lying in the long grass....you can see by my focal length how close she was...

The other versions are for all of you that wonder how close the animals get to us in an open vehicle, my contribution to Silly Sunday. In V3 I was about a metre from the cheetah... In V5 you can see how the elephant has stripped the bark from the thin branches.

Have a nice day....GrinGrin

Super set Colleen, lovely light in V1 and a very relaxed subject. Didn't realise you got that close to the
animals, they must be used to having people around, none of them look disturbed by the vehicle.

Dave,

They are very relaxed but that's because no private vehicles are allowed in the reserve and the Rangers from the various private lodges have very strict rules about dealing with animals and their space. The Rangers also are the top guys in their game .

One has to understand an elephant and not block the way they want to walk. The British lady had many warnings from the elephant last week, he faced her many times, flared his ears etc, she should have given way, he then got angry and overturned the car. A game ranger always parks the vehicle in a way that doesn't crowd the elephants space, the ranger also makes sure he has a way to move forward or back if the elephant warns him. Elephants don't just attack, only when they feel threatened. It is very seldom you find a game vehicle overturned mostly private cars who do not understand animals and their environment and habits

A wonderful set of large animal images Colleen, this is a splendid selection of the best of what the African bush has to offer. Pride of place must go to this beautiful cheetah lounging in the long grass. It must have been a real privelege to see these so close up in the wild and not from the safety of an armoured vehicle where the windows were wound up! Having seen how well you've done it, I think it is time for Safari Simon to rise to the challenge and capture some of these beasts with a Canon 50mm f1.8 lens!WinkGrin
