Good morning .....
One for Shadow Saturday
*******PLEASE NOTE:******* I have only uploaded ONE of my images today....V2 was captured by our Game ranger Gareth Long this week at the Game farm...just wanted to share the cuteness of the new baby elephant with all of you.
The hippopotamus amphibius has a skin type extremely vulnerable to dehydration. The epidermis (upper layer of skin) is up to 7X more sensitive to dehydration than that of other mammals and it is for this reason that they need to stay submerged during the hotter months of the year. An adult hippo can remain fully submerged for as long as 6 minutes while a young one can only do 40 seconds under water.
In times of severe drought where the water pools are severely reduced the female hippos have been known to drool saliva over their calves to protect them from dehydration.
Apologies if I only clicked on your image yesterday or missed it entirely. My Mom has been very ill for 3 days with chronic bronchitis, it even spoilt her birthday on Thursday. yesterday I had to rush her to hospital where they finally admitted her at 3pm. I have had to cancel my flight home today as well.
Enjoy your day....
