Morning from a wet and windy Cape Town...
Thank you for all your votes, comments and concern for Scar face yesterday. Also a big thank you to Harriet and Ju for their UA's. Him and his 2 sisters are close to my heart as I watched them grow up from tiny cubs over the last 3 years. I will look for their cub pics and upload them next week.
This is one of his sisters, the other sister is with the mother as they both have cubs to raise. We came across her in a clearing as the sun was coming up with a dead giraffe. As no one saw the kill we cannot say for sure if she killed him or if he died naturally. They are known to chase Giraffe and sometimes the giraffe falls and then its easier for them.
NOW....V 2 AND 4 ARE OF THE KILL PLEASE DO NOT LOOK IF YOU ARE SQUEMISH OR EATING ......
Lions always eat the face/cheeks of an animal first. then the soft meat below the tail. They also disembowel the animal so that the stomach and intestines do not rot the meat. Now I feel ill just writing this. The following 2 game drives we went back to look and the giraffe was starting to smell and the vultures were circling and sitting in trees...that's another upload.
When we got there the first day she ran into the bush, see V2 and it took us awhile to find her. We left for 10 minutes and came back and she was resting in the clearing, you can see the dried blood on her cheeks...AND A VERY FULL TUMMY
Happy viewing....this is nature at its bestGrinGrin

Gory graphics indeed, while nature may well be cruel it constantly recycles and unlike man, animals only kill to survive............... V3 is my preference, it's softness is a stark contrast.

Excellent photo journalism Colleen - unless you're a vegetarian none of us can say to much
about killing animals. It is sad thought to look at the beautiful giraffe lying there so undignified
when he once ran free himself.
V1 is a lovely image with the sun glinting on the lion's face.
