Days Out
152 (245)Hi all
We arranged to go to Arundel and meet with fellow epz'er Lillian and we did this on Tuesday just gone.
What a beautiful place it is .... previously I had only ever skirted it and headed down or up the A27, we parked up had a wander and unfortunately the castle closed to visitors until April first... We headed down to the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust....
We paid our money £19.40 for Mari and I , wandered in and straight away assaulted with the sheer amount of birds of all breed ... a terrific layout and all so user friendly.
Six hides in various locales and a new one being built and due finished very soon, we kept going for as long as we could in the biting wind till we eventually admitted defeat and went to get some lunch, grand home made soup, a roll and a coffee later and raring to go again..... So many opportunities such a steep learning curve.... we had a great time.
The social side of epz, the get well soon the support and the friendships a massive part of this site for us, what a pleasure to spend the day with Lillian, we had a laugh ..... we had some serious chats too and we built upon the friendship forged originally here in epz land.... Something we will definitely being doing again with this wonderful lady ....
All too soon the light going we were frozen but happy. On arrival back at reception we read there blurb, a joint membership £52 for the year and the fees for the day returned, AND a free book from the choices available. The upshot our yearly membership in reality cost us £12 .... the £19.40 returned the book we chose the new Collins Bird Guide II retailing at just under £20..... Great value and one we will use , two centres in the South East( ish) Arundel and Barnes in SW London, both easy enough to get to for us ![]()
I have always admired the bird images shown in the galleries, but after a day at Arundel WWT I have even more admiration, some of those little creatures so hard to get as they flit from branch to branch to feeder and gone ......... I am going to have trying to get a few images for the sake of it ![]()
Till next time
Colin

Glad you had such an enjoyable day venturing across the South East Counties into West Sussex ![]()
Only been to the Wildlife Centre once, do not know when , circa 1994 perhaps or even earlier.
Not my sort of place, but I have been told for those interested it is an excellent location for viewing the wildlife.
Also, there are some nice walks along the river and nearby for excellent landscape photography ( depending on the conditions of course ! )
Not a bad area for either or both of pub lunches or afternoon cream teas ! ![]()
