Modifiable = Critiqueable...?28/06/2008 - 7:23 PM
Still thinking about yesterday's blog entry, so this is more or less a sequel. I'm really getting into writing critiques now, more than before - it actually seems to become the thing to do now, thank heaven!
On the forum, people have suggested that not everyone appreciates critiques on his or her pictures. Fortunately, I can only recall one really negative reaction to my critiques so far, but that doesn't mean one shouldn't be careful, right? So the really extensive critiques have mainly gone to pictures in the Critique Gallery, but I've made a few exceptions. For whom? A few people I knew. A few who mentioned they wanted comments or critique (this always helps, because not posting in the Critique Gallery doesn't necessarily mean you don't want critique!) And people who posted in the Modifiable Gallery. (Strange name, that: As if we can modify the gallery - which, of course we can't.)
Why the Modifiable Gallery? Easy - think about it.
If you give people the possibility to modify your shots, you're bound to be open to ideas. Thus you would probably welcome suggestions. Which means you should be open to critique. Right?
It's only an idea - if you feel uncomfortable writing critiques for shots in the regular gallery, and the Critique Gallery doesn't offer enough opportunities to practice, go to the Modifiable Gallery! You don't have to be a Photoshop wizard to mod a shot. I certainly am no Photoshop expert, far from it! But a crop here and there, a curves layer, and some pictures already look a lot better. And it's fun! So it comes highly recommended.
Try it - see you in the Modifiable Gallery!
